Hello! I’m Sofia Castalia, a professional violinist with nearly 20 years of experience teaching and performing. I hold a degree in Violin Performance and Business Management, and am a current member of ASTA (American String Teachers’ Association) and the SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas).
Over the course of the past 19 years, I have built an extensive performance career. My credits include orchestras, musicals, operas, ballets, chamber ensembles, recording projects, and solo performances, for which I have most frequently performed as soloist, concertmaster, or first violinist. I have also performed for weddings, receptions, fundraisers, and private events.
Since 2006, I’ve had the joy of teaching all ages and skill levels in violin, viola, piano, and keyboard. In 2012, I expanded my work to include teaching and mentoring in universities, high schools, and youth theaters. In 2019, I began teaching in preschool through middle school classrooms, where I also taught choir and theater. I have also led group classes, masterclasses, and technique workshops for beginners through advanced violinists.
I have a very creative, collaborative teaching style, focusing on teaching technique and practice strategies, while also exploring various facets of music theory, music history, acoustics, and performance skills. I am passionate about nurturing each student’s unique learning journey. Whether we’re working on bow holds or performance confidence, I believe in meeting my students where they are and adapting to their individual styles and goals. My mission is to help students grow into confident, well-rounded musicians, empowered by their progress and fueled by their curiosity.
